What is Judaism? In its purest essence, Judaism is Ethical Monotheism; the belief in one God as explained in Torah.
What is Torah? Torah is, in one answer, the first five books of the Bible. Some believe it to be the entire corpus of Jewish writings as well.
What are the Jewish Holy Books? There are 24 main books, as follows: Torah-5, Prophets-8, Writings-11. The entirety of this is called TaNaKh, in Hebrew, Torah, Neviim and Ketuviim.
Are there more Jewish Holy Books? Yes. They start with Talmud and Prayer books and, literally, hundreds of thousands of books on philosophy, medicine and thought throuhout the ages.
What are the main branches of Judaism today? Traditional (Orthodox-many sub-branches), Conservative, Reform and Reconstructionist are the main branches extant today.
Will a Rabbi perform a wedding between people of different religions? Some will and some will not. We have a listing of Rabbis that will officiate at interfaith weddings.
Will a Rabbi officiate at a same sex commitment ceremony? Some will and some will not. We have a listing of Rabbis that will officiate at same sex commitment ceremonies.
Must I give up my family when I convert to Judaism? No. The family structure is the backbone of humanity and society. You are urged to keep your family close to you as your support structure. We will be sensitve to their needs, fears and questions. When we are asked to meet with them, we will help you through this transition period both during and after you have completed your transition to our Jewish "KEHILLAH", your new Jewish community.
Will a developmentally disabled person be able to have a Bar/Bat Mitzvah? Yes. We hold that the beauty of Judaism is not to be hidden from anyone.
My recently deceased spouse is Jewish. May I bury my spouse in a non-Jewish cemetery? Yes. All burial grounds are considered valid for people who are Jewish.
